23rd May 2010 - Fundraising Update

Wow! what a few months it's been! Members of the County Golf League have been hard at work raising funds for this worthwhile cause and the total amount raised now stands at a whopping £4440.32!

This total is testament to the amount of work put in by lots of different people. The Donation Station bags are still rolling in and two members were sponsored to wear some rather fetching trousers at a recent event! There have also been lots of miscellaneous donations, with many members donating the £10 deposits they were due to receive back from the Winter League schedule to the cause.

We are also indebted to the many companies that have generously made donations to help our event be successful. In these difficult economic times, everybody involved in the organisation of the day is extremely grateful to those companies and individuals that have helped us. For a full list of our supporters, please click here.

We orignally aimed to raise £3000 over the year. When it became apparent how generous people were being, this amount was revised to £5000. Incredibly, we've now raised this amount again and are pushing to get our total all the way to £10,000 by the time of the Relay for Life event on August 14th. If you could help us achieve our target, or offer support in any way, please contact us.

3rd April 2010 - Fundraising Update

Members of the County Golf League have spent the winter months raising money for Cancer Research UK in a variety of ways. At each Winter League match players have taken part in a putting competition prior to the main event and a large amount of money has also been raised through the collection of "Donation Station" bags. Donation Station is a scheme run by Cancer Research UK whereby our team's fundraising efforts can be supplemented by the collection of good quality, saleable items which we pass on to Cancer Research UK shops for resale. For each bag we taken in we receive a credit which is added to our fundraising total.

What this means so far is that we have raised a grand total of £2453.91 so far this year and we still have over a third of our fundraising year to go!

Thanks to everyone who has helped us so far. We are aiming to raise at least £5000 by the time of the Relay for Life event on August 14th. If you would like to help us achieve our target, please contact us.

22nd December 2009 - Golf trick shot master to appear at Golf for Life 2010.

We are delighted to announce that world-renowned golf trick shot expert Jeremy Dale will be appearing at Golf for Life 2010. Not only will Jeremy be around on the course to liven up the event, he will be demonstrating his unique brand of golf in a show after the main event.

Jeremy will be available on the tenth tee where players can "buy" his drive in return for a £5 donation to the charity. This might prove to be a wise investment as the tenth green is guarded by a stream running across the entire length of the front and placement of the tee shot is key if a player is to walk away with their scorecard still intact.

Jeremy will also be demonstrating his incredible range of trick shots in a special demonstration to follow the golf. If you've not seen him before, it really is not to be missed. Prepare to be amazed!

For more examples of Jeremy's talents, please see his site.

14th December 2009 - Online Donation.

We are pleased to anounce you can now donate to our charity online. If you would like to help our fundraising efforts using a credit or debit card, please click here to go to our donation page.

21st November 2009 - Venue Announcement!

Golf for Life 2010 will be held at Grassmoor Golf Centre, near Chesterfield in Derbyshire on Saturday 17th July 2010.

Course Reviews from Golfshake.com:

"Grassmoor is a well-established course that follows a traditional and gentle parkland layout which is challenging, whilst not putting the golfer off the course. With its many hazards such as its water features, placement of shot is all important to reach the excellent putting surfaces."

"Wasn't sure what to expect but was very pleasantly surprised. Very well laid out and well looked after. Yes, the greens may be tight, but the fairways are wide and forgiving. Add to that, a very friendly welcome from the young lady in the Pro shop/office and I can highly recommend this course to anyone driving by J 29, M1 with their clubs in the car and 3/4 hours to spare."
